We’re circling around some regional headlines today, starting with Georgia. The Georgia Foundation for Agriculture (GFA) is offering $65,000 in scholarships to Georgia students pursuing a degree in agriculture, veterinary medicine, family and consumer sciences or a related field. The four categories include the Scholarship for Agriculture, Technical College Scholarship for Agriculture, Rising College Junior/Senior Scholarship for Agriculture, and UGA College of Veterinary Medicine Scholarship. The deadline is coming up on March 1.

Florida lawmakers are looking at bidding adieu to cultivated, or lab-grown meat. The Florida House on Wednesday began moving forward with a wide-ranging Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services bill that would ban making or selling the product in the state.

And in Alabama, people 60 and older who meet income eligibility standards can receive a $50 benefit card to purchase fresh fruits and vegetables from farmers markets and farm stands in Alabama. To be eligible, applicants’ gross household income cannot exceed limits: of $2,248 monthly for a household of one or $3,041 monthly for a household of two. The Senior Farmers Market Nutrition Program is funded by the Alabama Department of Agriculture and Industries.
