Gun Control & Blame It On The Jet Stream. I'm Greg Martin with today's Northwest Report.

The President has moved to make new unilateral firearm restrictions to help keep gun violence down. The President was moved to tears remembering nearly two dozen children killed three years ago. He laid out some of the proposals.

OBAMA: Number one, anybody in the business of selling firearms must get a license and conduct background checks, or be subject to criminal prosecutions. We're also expanding background checks to cover violent criminals who try to buy some of the most dangerous firearms by hiding behind trusts and corporations and various cutouts. We're also taking steps to make the background check system more efficient. We're going to hire more folks to process applications faster, and we're going to bring an outdated background check system into the 21st century.

We heard a lot about how this was going to be another warm, dry winter thanks to an El Nino weather pattern in the Pacific Ocean. Then the rain and snow started and a lot of people, while grateful for the moisture, have wondered about the early forecast. Turns out the El Nino is still there but instead of it's usual weather patterns a strong jet stream has been pulling down cold air from the north to create the strong rain, snow and ice that we have been getting. When the jet stream moves back northward, the El Nino patterns will again take hold.
