The import of Paraguay beef has been a hot-button issue that R-Calf United Stock Growers of America has been advocating against for quite some time now. CEO Bill Bullard…

“Senator Jon Tester from Montana Democrat Senator Mike rounds, Republican from South Dakota, introduced a resolution of disapproval that essentially negates and reverses the USDA federal rule. And so it passed the Senate by a huge margin 70 to 25 largest victory margin in the history of the Senate doing resolutions of disapproval. And so now the issue goes to the House for the bill, and we're encouraging all the House of Representative members to vote in favor of the resolution of your approval that will stop the USDA from allowing high repeat in the United States from Paraguay. Well, it.”

Bullard says this issue has nothing to do with animal health and has everything to do with the leveraging of geopolitical means.

“They want to maintain a good friendship with Paraguay. So Paraguay would be friends with the United States and its political position with respect to Taiwan and the Ukraine. And so what's happening is the government is using food safety as leverage to achieve geopolitical goals. That's wrong. They have to figure out a different way. We simply cannot relax our health and safety standards.”
