Part 1: Growth Energy Pleased with Renewable Fuel Standards

Today marks the first of a four-part series featuring Growth Energy. Chris Bliley, senior vice president of regulatory affairs says that the renewable fuel standards have recently achieved a significant milestone by setting record high volumes and standards for renewable fuels.

“So it includes volumes for the three years 23, 24, and 25. Again, these are the highest volumes ever, which includes 15 billion gallons of conventional biofuels for each of those three years and includes an additional 250 million gallons from litigation for 2023.”

Bliley says a central focus for growth energy has been advocating for the administration's rejection of small refinery exemptions. An aspect of the renewable fuel standard is where numerical quotas aren't explicitly stipulated in the legislation. Instead, the Environmental Protection Agency determines these figures based on various considerations.

“The numbers are written into the law through 2022. And then for 2023. Afterwards, it's really up to EPA. And so this is the first rule in what we call the set world where EPA has much more discretion.”
