Dam Meetings Pt 2

From the Ag Information Network, I’m Bob Larson. A recently released memorandum from the Biden Administration appears to show support for the removal of the Lower Snake River dams.

U.S. Representative Dan Newhouse says in recent months, talks are going on behind closed doors largely with dam-breaching advocates at the table …

NEWHOUSE … “So, my demand has been to open this up. Allow those people that are most impacted in the Pacific Northwest to have a stronger voice here, to listen to those of us who live in this area. And so far, this has been relatively closed.”

While the process for removing the dams, Newhouse says is more complicated, other possible solutions don’t appear to even be addressed …

NEWHOUSE … “Breaching the dams requires an act of Congress. But my concern here is Bob, that there are perhaps other things that can be done by the administration, that by requiring different ways of managing the entire system that they could actually, in effect, keep the dams in place, but through the operational requirements, have a defacto breach by requiring the releasing and lowering of the levels of the reservoirs behind the dams.”

Newhouse says other rivers WITHOUT dams are having the same problems with salmon returns so everyone should be included in these discussions. to help find answers.
