Fall is a great time of year to look ahead to next season’s crop fertility needs. Helena Agri-Enterprises Division Agronomist Michael Larkin says their precision mapping and soil sampling service can help with this.

Larkin… “As harvest winds down, producers should look to next year’s fertility needs. Helena’s HyGround Soil Management Service is our precision mapping and soil sampling service coupled with site-specific recommendations. Variable rate application ensures we apply the right amount of nutrients in the right areas to sustain excellent growth during the season.”

Larkin says the Highground Soil Management Service is a great tool for managing soil variability throughout a field.

Larkin… “We map each nutrient and look not only at the range in variability, but also the agronomic interpretation, whether it ranks low, adequate, or high. Often, it’s beneficial to variably rate apply phosphorus and potassium, but we also look at other parameters such as soil pH, salinity, and micronutrients, and we make recommendations to address those needs also. Typically, all fields exhibit variability, areas which produce more, and areas that don’t grow so well. Some contributing factors include differences in soil texture, organic matter levels, past fertilization practices, and variations in yield and nutrient removal. Our HyGround Soil Management Service is a great tool to manage this variability.”
