CCP Agland Legislation Pt 1

From the Ag Information Network, I’m Bob Larson. U.S. Representative Dan Newhouse and members of the House Select Committee on the Chinese Communist Party have introduced legislation to address foreign adversaries who exploit their ability to purchase U.S. farmland.

Newhouse says working with this committee has been a real education …

NEWHOUSE … “I’m happy to be a part of it, happy to be part of this committee, actually. I’m learning a tremendous amount about the threats China poses to the United States and some of the ways we need to think about so we can be prepared to be successful competitors against them.”

Newhouse says it’s a problem seen around the world …

NEWHOUSE … “And then there’s been some instances of the Chinese wanting to purchase land near sensitive infrastructure in this country, such as military bases. And so, like I said, a growing interest in recognizing this is a problem and trying to figure out ways to address it.”

The bill, Newhouse says is the best first step …

NEWHOUSE … “I think that the legislation that we’ve come up with takes some pretty good steps towards the solution.”

Newhouse says, better safe than sorry …

NEWHOUSE ... “I would, I guess, characterize it as being proactive and trying to prevent something getting out of hand.”

Tune in tomorrow for more on this bill to stop China and others from buying up U.S. farmland.
