USDA Grants Millions in Rural Broadband ReConnect Program

The U.S. Department of Agriculture is offering $714 million in grants and loans to connect thousands of rural Americans to affordable, high-speed internet.

You might be asking yourself, “well that sounds all fine and dandy on paper, but what does that actually mean?”

The federal government has earmarked this funding as part of the Administration’s ReConnect program, which offers the private sector funding to assist in covering the cost of construction for revamping the infrastructure.

Right now, there’s about two dozen applications pending in northern, central, and southern California. I’ll include a link to the USDA’s map of these areas, and what companies have applications pending, on our website.

“For all Americans, the internet is an essential tool to access education, health care, and jobs. Too many are left without high-speed internet because of access, cost, or lack of skills. In rural America, high-speed internet can connect people to opportunities that are miles or even states away. High-speed Internet makes rural communities healthier, more vibrant places to live, learn, and work. Rural Americans live further from health care facilities, making access to tele-health even more important.”
