ERP Payments Pt 2
From the Ag Information Network, I’m Bob Larson. Northwest specialty crop producers should soon receive, if you haven’t already, applications for Emergency Relief Payments to cover crops impacted by last year's heat dome, drought and other natural disasters.
Washington Farm Service Agency Executive Director, Jon Wyss says to be eligible …
WYSS … “You had to have had a qualifying drought, excessive heat, excessive moisture, flooding, winter storm, wildfire, smoke, for our grape growers. And then we have excessive winds, filtered debris, blizzard, storm, or hurricane.”
And the year of loss? …
WYSS … “That can be 2020, 2021, or 2022. And some of the folks will say, well why do you have 2022? Well, some of our specialty crop commodities are picked in 2021, but the damage isn’t noticed until they bring them out of storage in 2022 or some of the other effects.”
Those eligible, Wyss says …
WYSS … “Eligible producer is just a personal, legal entity entitled to ownership and a share. They have to be a U.S. citizen, a resident alien, or WAFLA alien, partnership solely of citizens of the U.S., corporations of the U.S. or tribe or tribal organizations.”
This is the first-time heat-related provision have been included for northwest specialty crops.
