The Georgia Beekeepers Association is taking registrations for its Spring Conference in Macon in February

The annual event is for everyone from backyard beekeepers to professional keepers who transport hives around the region for crop pollination.

Gallucci: “ Every year there’s something new. There’s a new way to deal with your bees whether small or large scale. There’s new science. There are new papers that have been written.”

Gina Gallucci is President of the Georgia Beekeepers Association and says the event is open to beekeepers around the southeast who will hear from researchers like Dr. Lewis Bartlett with the University of Georiga’s Center for the Ecology of Infectious Diseases. Dr. Bartlett has helped develop a new computational model that allows beekeepers to track working bees’ lifespans and the different tasks they take on as they age.

Dr. Keith Delaplane who directs the University of Georiga’s Honeybee Program will speak at the conference. Kentucky Master Bee Keeper Kent Williams will also speak to the meeting.

Gallucci: “We also are fortunate to have a large number of Georiga Bee Keepers who are master beekeepers and long-time beekeepers who will be doing various talks whether they be hobbyists, sideliners with small businesses, or professionals that not only produce bees but are migratory beekeepers and sell bee pollination services.”

The conference will take place on February 18th and 19th at Middle GA State University in Macon. This is their first all-in-person conference since 2018. Registration info is found at www.gabeekeeping.com.
