World Pear Day-National Pear Month Pt 1
With today’s Fruit Grower Report, I’m Bob Larson. December is here and this is a very special month for the Pear
Industry for a couple of different reasons. First, December is “National” Pear Month. Second, National Pear Month starts off with a bang this Sunday with … “World” Pear Day …
STEPHENSON … “Well, we always say that World Pear Day, which is in the first part of December, kicks off National Pear Month. Again, that’s just a United States thing only, and that’s where the USDA has identified the month of December as being National Pear Month.”
And on that note, Pear Bureau Northwest’s Kathy Stephenson says you can follow a lot of this month-long celebration through social media …
STEPHENSON … “So, we celebrate throughout the month, we connect with retail and with the community of bloggers and social media in order to celebrate all things pears. Now that would be happening throughout the month of December.”
But, Stephenson says the WORLD celebration is a one day affair …
STEPHENSON … “So, the reason that we call it World Pear Day is because we travel around the world across 24-hours with pop-up events in probably about 20 countries.”
And, Stephenson says it’s a trip you can follow electronically …
STEPHENSON … “So, it’s 24 consecutive hours of travelling with our marketing representatives across all those export countries that we work in and then we come across the United States and Canada to finish it off.”
