Chinese Beef Sector Rapidly Modernizing

At the recent Alltech’s One Conference, many exciting technologies and opportunities were presented to the 3,000 multi-national participants. One of the exciting opportunities happening right now is the expansion and modernization of China’s beef industry. Alltech’s New Business Development Director in China Ian Lahiffe says
Lahiffe: “There is a massive transformation underway in China. I talked about the consumption for beef and the market for beef is growing. In the U.S. consumption is flat but in China it is growing 20 percent every year — that’s 1.4 billion people that want to eat better beef. We talked about two aspects — one there is a massive opportunity for exports for countries like the US. and Ireland. Second there is a massive transformation underway in the beef sector in China. The farms are getting bigger and more professional.”
The opportunity is not only available to beef exporting countries, but individuals as well who might want to share their beef expertise with Chinese beef producers
Lahiffe: “There is a great opportunity for young farmers from the US — the Northwest even — to go to Northwest China to go and work on a feedlot and bring their international expertise to China and to learn and engage with what’s one of the biggest transformations of a beef sector that is happening right now.”
