Regional Weekly Hay Report

Here is USDA Grain and Livestock Reporter Greg Sanders with the Columbia Basin Hay report from last week.
Sanders: “We had a little over 11,000 tons of hay trade, compared to last Friday. Premium export alfalfa was steady in a light test. Utility and fair quality alfalfa also steady. Large square alfalfa for export premium quality sold for $180 to $190. Small square alfalfa for the retail/stable market sold for $260 to $265 on the premium quality. Orchard grass premium quality for the retail/stable market small square bales sold for $275. Timothy grass mid-square for export sold from $178 to $190.”
In Idaho compared to previous week, premium and good Alfalfa was weak. Trade was slow to moderate last week. Heavy supplies of feeder hay continues to hamper the market. Alfalfa large square rated premium to supreme sold for $155 per ton. Wheat straw large squares rated fair sold for $47.50 per ton.
In Oregon, trade activity remained steady in comparison to the previous week. Many producers have decided to hold on to their hay for now, in hopes of higher prices. In Central Oregon small square alfalfa bales rated premium sold for $250 per ton for retail/stable. In Eastern Oregon supreme large square bales of alfalfa sold for $210 per ton. Harney County reported fair large square alfalfa for export sold for $155 per ton. In Klamath Basin good to premium small square alfalfa for export sold for $190 per ton.
