Growing Your Own & Missing Cattle

You'd think it was the 1850's as it appears cattle rustlers are once again stealing beef in Idaho. Two separate cases are being investigated. David Sparks has more.

SPARKS: 41 pairs of cows and calves have been reported stolen near the Idaho town of Bone. That is in addition to 25 pairs of cows and calves that went missing in Bonneville County. Speculation that sharp increases in beef prices is the cause for the rustling if indeed that is the case. There is also a chance that the cattle wandered onto public lands and joined grazing herds there. Rustling, though, is very likely due to the large number of missing cattle from two separate locations. Authorities are still investigating.

Five states have legalized the use of marijuana including most recently Oregon. But that does not mean that it has a green light. In fact, the opposite seems to apply. In Oregon, adults can legally grow their own plants beginning this summer but there won't be any help from the master gardeners of Oregon State University. Due to the fact that marijuana is still illegal under federal law, OSU has decided to not provide any information to gardeners regarding the growing of the plant. Washington State University made the same statement after the initiative passed there.

Now U.S. grain exporters are cautiously optimistic that China will eventually lift its current barriers to certain biotech varieties of U.S. corn. Gary Crawford has more.
