Introducing Colorado's Leann Saunders as USMEF Chair

At last week’s annual Strategic Planning Conference of the U.S. Meat Export Federation Meeting, new officers were elected and the new Chair is from Colorado.
Leann Saunders of Castle Rock is co-founder and president of Where Food Comes From, Inc., an agricultural and food verification and certification company. She also remains actively involved in her family’s ranching and stocker operations and is part owner of the Mayfield Heritage Cattle Company.
In her acceptance speech, Sanders shared more about her company that she and her husband founded.
Saunders: “And that then evolved in to developing identification and traceability systems for the livestock industries which today spans all of the proteins. So whether that is helping producers meet the NHTC requirements for the European market or helping a processor understand a certain export verification instruction — that is what we do. We are fortunate to get to work with everybody in those supply chains each and every day. And we value the relationships we have with producers, packer/processors, and retailers and food service. And as a result we started our Where Food Comes From labeling program which was all about communicating the wonderful things we do in agriculture.”
Saunders has been involved with USMEF for more than 15 years, and says one aspect of the organization she values most is its ability to provide private sector companies with unparalleled market intelligence. She said members also benefit greatly from the wide range of perspectives represented within USMEF.
