Colyer Hereford and Angus Production Sale Happens Monday

The bull buying season is upon us. For those ranchers shopping for bulls, there are a lot of sales to choose from. Hereford breeder Katie Colyer shares more about her family’s Hereford and Angus production sale.

Colyer: “The 34th Annual Production Sale will be happening on Monday, February 24th and it will be at the Colyer Ranch in Bruneau, Idaho. Sale begins at 12:30 Mountain time.”

Katie Colyer, the third generation of Colyer family on the ranch, shares more about what kind of cattle her family produces.

Colyer: “We do go to the shows and do hit a few of the major shows throughout the year but everything is still based on the commercial cattlemen and what they are looking for. Something that can go out and make it on the range and out in the country so everything is based with the commercial cattlemen in mind.”

Colyers use AI extensively as well as embryo transplant to further their herd’s strong genetics and performance. Colyer says that many of their buyers come back year after year.

Colyer: “Each year we usually do have major commercial customers from the northwest as well as Wyoming and back East and Oklahoma and Texas as well.”

There will be 145 Hereford bulls and 71 Angus bulls going through the sales ring on Monday as well as some open females of both breeds.

Last year’s sale topper bull, Miles McKee, sold for a World Record price of $600,000.
