Meatless Monday Campaign Lacks Integrity

The Meatless Monday Campaign has now been around for 10 years. The Animal Ag Alliance -- a pro-animal agricultural non profit -- decided to investigate the anti-animal product campaign and discovered some very interesting statistics as Emily Meredith, Animal Agriculture Alliance's Communications Director, explains.

Meredith: "So what we did is we had our staff, here at the Alliance, individually call every school, every college, every restaurant, and every food service provider and see if they were really still members of the Meatless Monday Campaign."

The results were even more surprising than they expected as Meredith continues.

Meredith: "We didn't expect the results to be quite as astonishing as they were -- because they really were truly shocking. In a lot of cases there were over half of the organizations list that were never or no long part of the campaign."

Meredith says many of those interviewed emphasized the need for consumer choice in the marketplace and that providing a variety of options to consumers seemed to work best.

She adds.

Meredith: "I think that if Meatless Monday Campaign was honest with themselves they would see that their numbers were dwindling because it is an extreme view point and pushing something upon people that they do not want pushed upon them."

Hmmm, honest with themselves -- presents an interesting conundrum for the Meatless Monday Campaign since they lack the integrity to be honest with the public.
