Dole Recall & Needing Energy Independence

Dole Recall & Needing Energy Independence. I’m Greg Martin with today’s Northwest Report.

Wednesdays Independence Day celebration should have been a big reminder to the country that we need energy independence. Oil prices shot up sharply on Tuesday as international tensions mounted. Retail gasoline prices started to respond. Tom Buis - Growth Energy CEO - says it is another chapter of the same old story.

BIUS: I don’t know how many times you have to see the same movie over and over again. We know how it ends and it ends in the downside for our economy every time gas prices get high. We can’t go back to sleep every time prices come down. We have to continue to build out alternatives for foreign oil.

For the second time in six days, Dole Fresh Vegetables Inc. issued a voluntary recall of bagged salad products because of possible listeria contamination. The other recent recall was on June 29 of over 2500 cases of Dole Hearts of Romaine bagged salad. According to Dole’s release, the FDA found the possible listeria contamination during a “random sample test” but did not indicate how many samples were tested or whether they were taken at retail or distribution locations. Check with your local grocer for details.

Now here’s today’s Washington Grange report.
