This is the Agribusiness Update...I’m Greg Martin...

Legislation has been introduced in the House and Senate to help spur new agricultural research by leveraging private dollars to create charitable partnerships between universities and private entities. The Charitable Agricultural Research Act was introduced in both the Senate and the House. The measure would amend the tax code to allow for the creation of new charitable, tax-exempt agricultural research organizations.

As a result of the lawsuit filed and a request for an emergency injunction - recent efforts by the Environmental Protection Agency to release personal and private information about livestock and poultry farmers sought by environmental groups were halted. Last week EPA informed the court it would deny the most recent requests for information - and all future requests - until the conclusion of the litigation.

House Speaker John Boehner has made it clear the Senate-passed immigration bill has no chance of passage in the House. He has also stated he won’t bring any immigration legislation to the House floor that doesn’t have the support of a majority of Republican members. House Republicans want to pass smaller pieces of legislation that deal with individual problems instead of a big Obamacare-like bill.

That’s today’s Agribusiness Update from the Ag Information Network.
