A fall turkey hunt with regular contributor Josh Mills. “It’s interesting to be a hunter and a fisherman with young kids at home because sometimes you have to steal away little moments to be able to feed your outdoor passion especially when there is soccer practice, football practice, work and all that kind of thing. I was able to sneak away for a little bit of fall turkey hunting. I have access on some private land north of Spokane. I had three hours to get it done and at the very least, I would have a nice walk in the woods. I pull up to the property and look across at the other farm that I do not have access on and there are over 300 birds in their feedlot and I go oh no, all the birds are over there. So I decided to just walk on my property and see what happens. With fall Turkey hunting you are not calling because the toms are not responding to calls as they do in the spring when they are breeding. But the hands still make a ton of noise and you can use their talk to at least identify where they are. So I walk through this property which is 50 or 60 acres. I walk one side to the other. Plenty of sign around, it had previously been logged 10 years ago. Plot of land that is so full of turkeys it was amazing. In the springtime I ran into a few birds but never quite closed the deal. On one side of the property I run into five or six Jakes but they were 60 or 70 yards by the time I saw them, so I just let them go.” Josh took a nap and when he woke up, we will find out what happened tomorrow.
