Today, nearly 90 percent of farmers purchase crop insurance because it protects their bottom line. Unfortunately, many ranchers miss out on the financial benefits that crop insurance could provide.
But that’s about to change.
Our newsmaker guest is Brandon Willis, former top aid for Montana U.S. Senator Max Baucus who went on to have a career at the USDA and most recently headed up the Risk Management Agency under the Obama administration and now owns Ranchers Insurance.
“Ranchers Insurance LLC was created to ensure that crop insurance works for western ranchers. We focus on the insurance policies that will help improve the profitability of the livestock community. Our goal is to use our unique background, experience, and insights to improve your bottom-line.”
He says the pasture, rangeland and forage coverage is a good plan for ranchers.
“Pasture, Rangeland, Forage (PRF) Pilot Insurance Program is designed to provide insurance coverage on your pasture, rangeland, or forage acres. PRF can protect your operation from the risks of forage losses when precipitation falls below certain levels. This innovative program is based on precipitation (i.e. rain or snow) and allows ranchers to insure against the lack of precipitation.”
