05/02/05 Taiwan trade group impressed with Idaho

Idahoans meeting with businessmen from Taiwan. That's what happened the other day. I'm Bill Scott and the story in a minute. CHEN WANG "We come here to find some business opportunities. Our first impression is very, very good." That's how one member of a Taiwanese trade delegation summed up his visit to the Winery at Eagle Knoll last week. The buyers and importers from Taiwan came to Idaho for a series of agri-business meetings. At the Ada County winery Ju-Ken Tu talked to Idahoans about potatoes and other commodities. TU "Onions and also some members are interested in wine, red wine and white wines." As he said Taiwan is interested in learning more about Idaho wines. Eagle Knolls' Gina Mikelson was eager to help teach them. MIKELSON "A lot of great opportunities for not just the winery but to get Idaho products overseas, that in and of itself is great. With the winery at Eagle Knoll we have been there just going on our second year and this would be an awesome opportunity to market our product overseas." Farm Bureau President Frank Priestly spent a lot of his time barbecuing steaks and cooking potatoes to serve to the Asian guests. That dinner made some positive impressions too.
