05/24/05 100 Years of the Hort DVD

The legacy of the video presentation "100 Years: Celebrating a Century" now continues in D.V.D. format. HAZEN: We always talk about that the tree fruit industry always has a great story to tell, and, well, here it is. We have both the DVD that appeared at the meeting, and then we've also included the live, on-stage interviews that were taped during the annual meeting. Jim Hazen of the Washington State Horticultural Association says the presentation, first aired at the 2004 Hort Association meeting, gives not only a historical view of the tree fruit industry through the eyes of historians, scientists, orchardists, and shippers. It also shows how the innovations of the past and today are shaping the industry for years to come. HAZEN: A very ambitious project like this, you're never quite sure how it's going to turn out. And so once the final production was completed, we were extremely impressed not only with the production value but with what the story promoted about the industry and the value that the industry provides to the state. Hazen says the D.V.D. accomplishes the goal of Hort Association board members in telling the story through a broad distribution & one that encompasses both industry insiders and those who need to hear the positive stories of horticulture and its benefits.
