April has farmers busy with Spring planting. Dry conditions continue for much of the state.

Bill Meyer has the Crop Progress and Condition Report for early April.

“Probably the most notable thing in the report is the soil moisture supplies. In Colorado we remain mostly dry.

Top soil moisture is rated at 38 percent adequate, 1 percent surplus and that compares to last year when it was 72 percent adequate and 4 percent surplus. The same is true for our subsoil it’s 52 percent adequate to surplus compared to 3 percent adequate to surplus a year ago. That shows in our pasture and range conditions, rated at 4 percent good and 2 percent excellent. Quite a bit behind last year when it was rated 35 percent good and 4 percent excellent.

Our winter wheat growing areas have received some places, rated at 31 percent good and 8 percent excellent. And that’s equal to last year at this time.

These reports come out at the first of the week and you can read the entire report at NASS.USDA.gov.
