03/14/06 WCA/WSU Bull Test Sale

Washington Ag March 14, 2006 The 13th Annual Washington Cattlemen's Association-Washington State University Bull Test Sale is scheduled for March 22nd at the WSU Irrigated Ag Research and Extension Center at Prosser, Washington. Gary Kendall of Kendall Cattle Sales in Potlatch Idaho is the sales manager. Kendall: "The bulls are in good shape. We have 163 on test. We will sell the top 75% of those." Kendall says Craig Huffines, Executive Vice President of the American Hereford Association, will be the speaker at the Breeders Forum as part of the pre-sale social hour on March 21st. Kendall: "He will talk about things related to the cattle industry, mostly that you are going to have to prove your genetics to get people to buy them. Also a complimentary lunch the next day and a trade show. First year for the trade show." Kendall says Doctor Art Linton, the chief organizer of the test, is retiring so it is his last year, but the Washington Cattlemen's Association and WSU have reinforced their dedication to the bull test. Dr. Charles Gaskins, Interim Chair of the WSU Animal Science Department, says there is a definite need in the industry for such a program and they will move ahead to fill strategic positions and improve the mechanics of the program should the need arise. I'm Bob Hoff.
