02/21/06 4-H`ers to get to know their government

Washington Ag February 21, 2006 Three hundred Washington teens will learn how a bill becomes law at this year's 4-H Know Your Government Conference that is coming up February 25th through the 28th in Olympia. The 4-Hers will be hearing from the state's code reviser, from agricultural lobbyist Heather Hansen and Lt. Governor Brad Owen. Owen will address a legislative breakfast where youth delegates will spend time with legislators. The 4-H Know Your Government Conference is a hands on educational opportunity for youths ages 14 to 18. More than 70-thousand young people participate in 4-H programs in Washington including leadership, science, service learning, the arts and technology. This also is National FFA Week. This year's theme is "Living to Serve" which emphasizes how FFA is preparing students to incorporate community and public service into their personal and professional lives. Nearly half a million members around the nation will participate in FFA Week activities at local and state levels. National FFA advisor Larry Case says the focus of National FFA Week is to tell America about the great opportunities available for all youth. By combining classroom instruction and hands on learning, agricultural education and FFA are helping raise the academic achievement and personal growth of students every day. I'm Bob Hoff. .
