02/06/06 Farm Bureau Legislative Days in Oly

Washington Ag February 6, 2006 About 200 or so members of the Washington State Farm Bureau are expected in Olympia this Tuesday and Wednesday for the organization's annual Legislative Days. Boyer: " Among other things we will be presenting our final property rights initiative to Secretary of State Sam Reed on Tuesday, February 7th." That's Farm Bureau spokesman Dean Boyer. Last month the Farm Bureau made a filing of the intent of that property rights initiative it hopes to place on the November ballot, which is to protect the use and value of property from excessive regulations by state and local government. Boyer says in addition to getting legislative updates from Farm Bureau staff, those attending will be making visits to state lawmakers. Boyer: "We encourage them to visit their legislators or legislators from other districts up on the Hill during our meeting to talk about those issues that are most important to them." Boyer says Farm Bureau has been encouraged by the attention lawmakers have given the needs of farmers this session like proposals to exempt farm diesel from the sales tax and the various proposed incentives for biodiesel production. By the way the American Farm Bureau Federation recently voted to hold its 91st annual convention in 2010 in Seattle. I'm Bob Hoff.
