07/26/05 Late blight in Basin; drought cmte meet

Washington Ag July 26, 2005 Potato late blight has been reported and confirmed at several locations in the Columbia Basin. Washington State University plant pathologist Dennis Johnson provided the general locations of the confirmed blight on the late blight Hotline. Johnson: "South of Finley, north of Eltopia, south of I-90 off of Dodson Road and about five miles south of George by Road "O." Infected fields should be on a five to seven day fungicide application schedule. Fields from Finley to Basin City should be on a seven day fungicide application schedule. Fields southeast of George should be on a seven day fungicide application schedule." Johnson says sprinkler irrigated fields elsewhere in the Columbia Basin should be on at least a ten to 14-day fungicide application schedule and all fields need to be monitored for late blight at least three times a week. Washington's top drought committees will conduct a community event in Clayton in Stevens County tomorrow evening July 27th to share information about how the state is responding to the drought. Local, state and federal representatives also want to hear from local residents about how the drought is affecting the region. That event tomorrow is from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Mont Lamm Belgians Building in Clayton. I'm Bob Hoff.
