03/07/05 Ag groups sponsor safety seminar

Washington Ag March 7, 2005 Washington Farm Bureau and other agricultural groups represented on the Governor's Industrial Safety and Health Advisory Board are sponsoring an Ag Safety Seminar Wednesday, March 9th in Yakima. The seminar will run from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the Convention Center in Yakima. Dean Boyer of the Farm Bureau says a major focus on the safety seminar will be the Department of Labor and Industries' cholinesterase monitoring program. Boyer: "We will have several sessions looking at the first year results. Interpreting what those results mean, and talking about how to improve pesticide safety on the farm." There will also be sessions on Worker Protection Standards, record keeping, tractor safety, ladder safety and eye protection. Boyer: "And every session will be held both in Spanish and in English. So, we are hoping to get a good turn out both of farm employers and perhaps farm workers." The cost is 30-dollars per person for those who register prior to the conference and $45 at the door. It includes lunch. For more information or to register call the Washington Farm Bureau at 800-331-3276. I'm Bob Hoff.
