Proposed Fees For Trail Permits & Inspiring Young People

Tomorrow the Washington State Parks and Recreation Commission will be holding a public workshop in Chehalis regarding the development of policies, procedures, and fees for use of non-recreational motorized vehicles on agency-managed long-distance trails. State Parks has received requests for linear use of long-distance trails by adjacent landowners to assist with their agricultural production. Producers are encouraged to attend. The workshop is from 6:30 to 8:30 pm at the Veterans Memorial Museum on SW Veterans Way in Chehalis.

As an adult volunteer 4-H leader in Kennewick Leslie Linderoth has worked with numerous young people over the last 27 years introducing them to the joys of raising chickens. Now Linderoth says her 4-H group is going to help her teach others about backyard poultry.

LINDEROTH: It's an adult class at Kennewick High School so we can get to the backyard person that wants to have fresh eggs in the morning, but wants to know how do I feed them properly, how do I care for them properly, how do I take care of parasites, and diseases, and health risks and things as far as having poultry.

City regulations vary when it comes to backyard poultry and Linderoth says that will also be covered.

LINDEROTH: I'm having my 4-H kids - I'm breaking it up for them to do the research. So one young 4-H girl, or senior girl, is approaching each of the nearby cities and getting the regulations so I'll be able to hand those out in class. It's important to get these 4-H kids out there researching something and presenting themselves to the public; kind of shows what all 4-H does.
