I'm Bob Larson. If you are currently farming or ranching, OR if it's something you are considering in the not too distant future, the Center for Latino Farmers, a division of Rural Community Development Resources, is hosting a 20-hour class on Farm Financial Management.

The Center's Maria Giedra says it's a great opportunity to get this required education...

GIEDRA ... "As you know, the United States Department of Agriculture requires that every beginning farmer and rancher to take the financial management course to learn about finances and that's a required class to them. So, what we do is teach the classes."

Giedra says the class is not 20-hours in one day ...

GIEDRA ... "It is one big classroom style series and we do four hours per day, Monday through Thursday. Thursday, we have the graduation because they do receive their certificate of completion."

She says student certification is included ...

GIEDRA ... "We do give them a certificate which goes to Spokane headquarters and then it also goes to the loan officers to show them that they have met the requirement for the Farm Service Agency loans."

Giedra says the class is something you'll have to take eventually ...

GIEDRA ... "The financial management training, it is required by federal government, but it also helps for anybody to have a business or just likes to budget."

The 4-day class starts this Monday, December 17th thru 20th from 5pm to 9pm at the Oxford Inn Hotel in Yakima. Call 509-453-3157 to register. More on this class Monday.
