I'm Bob Larson. When it comes to potatoes, russets are great! But, if you are a big fan or red, gold, purple or white potatoes, Skagit County is the place for you.

The 2018 harvest has again produced some of the best you'll find anywhere.

Tony Wisdom, partner at Sterling Hill Farms in Burlington, says growers produced another fine crop ...

WISDOM ... "Well, right now things are pretty put to bed for the year. We have most everything that we want in storage IS in storage. We always leave some stuff out in the fields to dig fresh out of the dirt through the holiday season. And, right now we're getting pretty good rain so it will be interesting to see what happens in the next few days for that side of it, but otherwise it was great. It was a great summer, perfect growing season, great storage season because we had very-little-to-no rain during harvest so tubers went in dry coming out of moderately moist dirt so it was just perfect."

And that's great, but "leaving some out in the fields to dig fresh" ... how long can they stay out there?

WISDOM ... "laughs, well, you never really know how long you can leave them in because you never really know when it's going to rain and it will just eventually get too wet to do anything with, but we try to be able to dig fresh potatoes in early December or mid-December. That's what we shoot for."

Tune in tomorrow for on the specialty potatoes grown in Skagit County and how they're marketed to spud lovers in the stored and fresh market.
