**The 2018 World Meat Congress is coming to Dallas at the end of the month. The event, which is the premier gathering of red meat industry leaders from across the globe, is hosted by the U.S. Meat Export Federation and the International Meat Secretariat.

Trade policy issues will be front-and-center at the World Meat Congress as a panel of experts exchange views on the likely future direction of the global trading system.

The panel will be moderated by Ambassador Darci Vetter, former chief ag negotiator for the U.S. Trade Representative.

**Ag Secretary Sonny Perdue announced the appointment of Bruce Summers as the administrator of USDA's Agricultural Marketing Service, part of the department's Marketing and Regulatory Programs mission area.

Perdue tells Agri-Pulse, during his many years at the department, Summers has earned a reputation for excellence and effectiveness.

AMS administers programs that create domestic and international marketing opportunities for U.S. producers of food, fiber, and specialty crops through voluntary grading, laboratory and quality verification programs.

**The Amarillo City Council approved an amendment to a 2016 agreement between Texas Tech University and the Amarillo Economic Development Corporation to fund up to $69 million to ensure the construction of the Texas Tech School of Veterinary Medicine.

Along with addressing the critical shortage of rural veterinarians, Texas Tech will become the first new Vet school in 40 years.
