Ag Secretary Named and Protecting Bees

After the longest search for a USDA chief in modern history, President-elect Donald Trump has nominated former Georgia Governor Sonny Perdue as Ag Secretary. The longtime rural agribusinessman who originally trained as a veterinarian.
The 70-year old Perdue served two terms as governor, from 2003 to 2011, and was an original member of Trump's ag advisory team, announced in August.
Perdue has a doctorate in veterinary medicine, but spent much of his career in the grain and fertilizer business after leaving the Air Force in 1974.
The Environmental Protection Agency has released two long-awaited documents on bees and pesticides.
According to the EPA, the final "Policy to Mitigate the Acute Risk to Bees from Pesticide Products," which addresses how to protect managed bees, "is more flexible and practical" than the policy proposed in 2015.
EPA says it will begin implementing the policy this year with new pesticide label language to protect managed bees.
