Agribusiness Update for Thursday 1/16/14

The disagreement over farm bill dairy policy doesn't simply exist between lawmakers - the dairy industry isn't in agreement on the best way move forward either. One idea first developed at Ohio State University would retain the expired Milk Income Loss Contract program from the 2008 farm bill as an option. Some say the proposal looks doable on the political and funding levels - even though the compromise has been scored as costing more than the Senate farm bill.

According to two experts in water regulations - there are two things farmers need to realize about a new regulation the EPA is scheduled to release in the coming weeks. First - the new rule EPA is proposing would greatly increase the scope of the Clean Water Act - making it of enormous importance to farmers across the country. Second - is the need for grassroots action.

The 25 x '25 Alliance is restructuring its leadership team. Read Smith and Bart Ruth, co-chairmen of the new executive leadership committee said the reconstituted leadership team will help the alliance launch a fresh vision campaign that will embrace an all of the above energy approach while emphasizing the tremendous economic and quality-of-life improvements that renewable energy development has delivered to the nation - particularly in rural areas.
