Agribusiness Update for Monday 10/7/13

Several House Democrats have introduced comprehensive immigration reform legislation that would provide a path for millions of existing illegal immigrants to gain legal status. The legislation seeks to increase border security and solve the nation's immigration issue. It also would allow undocumented workers - including farm workers - to be eligible for an immigrant visa status with certain restrictions.

The American Farm Bureau Federation recently released its latest Semi-Annual Marketbasket Survey - an informal survey looking at 16 food items that can be used to prepare one or more meals. The latest survey shows the total cost of these 16 food items was 53-dollars and 20-cents - up about three-percent from a survey conducted nearly six-months ago. The three-percent increase is slightly higher than the average rate of inflation over the past 10-years - but was expected.

The Endangered Species Act Congressional Working Group will hold a forum on Thursday, October 10th entitled "Reviewing 40 Years of the Endangered Species Act and Seeking Improvement for People and Species."
