Agribusiness Update for Wednesday 09/11/13

This is the Agribusiness Update...I'm Greg Martin... At least 89 people have reported getting sick after eating Chobani Greek yogurt according to the FDA. The yogurt was made in Twin Falls but so far no cases have been confirmed. Chobani issued a voluntary recall last week due to substandard product quality and the FDA is working with them to hasten the recall. The yogurt is reported to have been contaminated with mold. Senate Agriculture Committee Chair Debbie Stabenow is calling on House leadership to announce their conferees and officially begin conferencing the Farm Bill before the current extension expires on September 30th. She says it's time to stop kicking the can down the road and leaving rural America and 16-million jobs hanging in uncertainty. In conjunction with the 20th annual National Public Lands Day - the U.S. Forest Service is offering a fee-free day September 28th. U.S. Forest Service Chief Tom Tidwell says the announcement is part of the USDA for all Seasons campaign - which seeks to educate the public on all the ways the department's agencies programs help communities and their economies every day. That's today's Agribusiness Update from the Ag Information Network.
