Agribusiness Update for Tuesday 08/27/13

The Federal Trade Commission is going to examine possible anti-competitive practices by oil companies that limit consumer access to renewable fuels. Senator’s Klobuchar and Grassley recently urged the Administration to take action to address reports indicating oil companies may be undermining efforts to distribute renewable fuels - including higher ethanol blends. Klobuchar said consumers deserve to have access to homegrown renewable fuels.

The Trade Benefits America Coalition, made up of businesses and trade groups, is dedicated to the pursuit of U.S. international trade agreements that benefit American businesses, farmers, workers and consumers. The Coalition has launched a new website as an educational resource and advocacy tool. Their mission is to educate policymakers and the public on the benefits of trade and U.S. trade agreements.

The latest NASS report on Farm Computer Usage shows 70% of farms have access to computers. Internet access on farms jumped to 67% with most farms using DSL to connect. Farms earning over $250-thousand have the greatest access at 84%.
