Agribusiness Update for Wednesday 8/7/13

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has issued a set of standards for food manufacturers wishing to label a product gluten-free. The limit for foods marketed as gluten-free is 20 parts per million of gluten present. This extends to products labeled free of gluten, without gluten or no gluten.

The Renewable Fuels Association is using the largest motorcycle gathering to promote the benefits of ethanol. The RFA is using the slogan, Ride Safe. Fuel Right at this years 2013 Sturgis Motorcycle Rally. The motorcycle industry has been a hard nut to crack when it comes to the ethanol industry and the RFA hopes to show riders that ethanol poses no threats to their machines.

U.S. Senator Maria Cantwell visited a Spokane-area grain inspection lab with Eastern Washington wheat and potato growers to call for bipartisan action on the Farm Bill. Cantwell urged the House and Senate to begin a conference to work out the differences between each chamber’s Farm Bill. The current bill expires in just 54 days.
