Agribusiness Update for Friday 7/5/13

This is the Agribusiness Update...I’m Greg Martin...

On Tuesday the National Grange announced their support for small business owners and the self-employed against the impending health insurance tax (HIT) included in President Barack Obama's health care provisions. The Grange signed onto the Stop the HIT Coalition. The tax will cause health insurance companies to raise their premiums, affecting around 88% of small businesses and their employees according to the coalition.

It may be the holiday weekend but the pressure is still on for the House to get back to work on a farm bill. Many ag groups have come together to urge Congress to pass a comprehensive, five-year farm bill before the extension of the 2008 Farm Bill expires on September 30th. Over 530 groups have signed a letter to House Speaker John Boehner urging them to get this done as soon as possible.

USDA’s Natural Resources Conservation Service has developed the largest soil carbon dataset in the world to help producers and planners estimate the impacts of conservation practices on soil carbon levels.
