Agribusiness Update for Tuesday 6/25/13

Senate Ag Committee Chair Debbie Stabenow and other Senators are suggesting the House bring up the Senate bill - after the House Ag Committee's bill was defeated Thursday on the House floor. Stabenow says the House needs to find a way to get a five-year farm bill done.House Ag Ranking Member Collin Peterson says the Senate's version would get even fewer votes than the amended House Ag Committee-passed bill that was rejected by the House.

Marking the first day of summer Friday - Ag Secretary Tom Vilsack launched the USDA for All Seasons campaign. It’s an effort to help Americans stay healthy and safe throughout the year with USDA programs and information. This USDA for All Seasons effort is designed to expand access to helpful seasonal information and resources improving the health and well-being of all Americans.

An estimated 25,000 bumblebees were found dead or dying last week in a Wilsonville, Oregon parking lot. The Oregon Department of Agriculture has confirmed that the bee deaths are directly related to a pesticide application on the linden trees to control aphids. Bee-proof netting is being placed on 55 trees to keep additional bees from coming in contact with the pesticide.
