Agribusiness Update for Monday 6/17/13

This is the Agribusiness Update...I’m Greg Martin...

The Renewable Fuels Association says the oil industry continues to spread lies that ethanol doesn't help reduce gasoline prices. Studies and analyses by the federal government have found that without ethanol, American families would feel a much sharper increase in fuel prices, with some estimates as high as $1.09 more per gallon.

The state of Oregon is looking to fill a couple of open position on the State Board of Agriculture. Positions to be filled include a public member and an agricultural producer. The State Board of Agriculture advises the Oregon Department of Agriculture about programs, policies, and issues affecting the industry. The 10-member board meets quarterly.

As the House begins to get busy on their version of the farm bill a number of various commodities have sent a letter to lawmakers to urge the quick consideration and passage of the bill. The groups state their strong support for provisions in the bill that would consolidate conservation programs, make improvements in federal crop insurance and reauthorize and fund agricultural research, energy and export promotion programs.
