Agribusiness Update for Thursday 2/14/13

This is the Agribusiness Update...I’m Greg Martin...

The 2012 IRS 1099 forms issued to farmers and ranchers who received NRCS financial assistance are incorrect and are scheduled to be reissued by USDA’s Office of the Chief Financial Officer in March. The IRS forms issued in January may either be in the wrong amount or no 1099 was issued when one should have been.

House Ag Committee Chairman Frank Lucas expressed disappointment that the President didn’t present a plan to prevent sequestration from going into effect. But Lucas also expressed hope that the President is serious about pursuing a plan to get the U.S. economy back on solid ground. To improve the economy - Lucas says President Obama must realize the federal government has a spending problem - not a revenue problem.

One Idaho school is considering arming their teachers. Officials with the Garden Valley School District weighed the issue arming staff members Tuesday at a regular meeting. If the district decides to approve the measure the guns would be secured on school property and accessible only to a select number of teachers or staff.
