Agribusiness Update for Tuesday 1/22/13

This is the Agribusiness Update...I’m Greg Martin...

A newly introduced bill would remove barriers, both natural and regulatory, to the relocation of wolves from around Washington state to Western Washington locations, such as the Olympic Peninsula and San Juan Islands. The introduction of House Bill 1258 would ensure all Washingtonians share in the benefits of an expanding wolf population.

LJD Holdings, Inc., doing business as B and D Foods in Boise, Idaho, is recalling approximately 33,500 pounds of fully cooked meat and poultry products due to possible contamination with Listeria monocytogenes. The recall includes packaged beef, chicken and pork.

And a new report is questioning the effectiveness of the SNAP or supplemental nutrition assistance program. According to the report, the program doesn’t account for the barriers to finding affordable, nutritious food by inner-city shoppers and the benefits lag behind the increasing cost of food.

That’s today’s Agribusiness Update from the Ag Information Network.
