On Friday, Ag Secretary Tom Vilsack announced 25-million dollars of funding for research and development of next-generation renewable energy and high-value biobased products from a variety of biomass sources.

Just after federal officials declared 2012 as the hottest year on record in the lower 48 states a bill was announced to create a transparent fee on greenhouse gas emissions from the biggest polluters - while also aiming to boost green energy development and end tax incentives for oil companies. Environment and Public Works Committee Chairwoman Barbara Boxer says she’s establishing an ad-hoc climate change clearinghouse with two other Senate committee chairmen that will promote administrative action and legislation.

American Farm Bureau’s Bob Stallman told Farm Bureau members on Sunday that what Congress did on the Farm Bill at least gives farmers some certainty for 2013. Farm Bureau’s annual meeting is underway in Nashville and Stallman also said that what they did was not perfect.
