Agribusiness Update For Tuesday 1/8/13

House Ag Ranking Member Collin Peterson sent letters to Speaker John Boehner and Majority Leader Eric Cantor Thursday saying he doesn’t see any reason for the House Ag Committee to go through the process of writing a new, five-year farm bill again in the new Congress unless there’s assurance from the leadership. Peterson pointed out empty promises Boehner made three months before being elected Speaker of the Housel.

USDA Agricultural Research Service scientists have discovered vegetated drainage ditches can help capture pesticide and nutrient loads in field runoff - giving farmers a low-cost alternative for managing agricultural pollutants and protecting natural resources.

Financial and technical assistance is now available through the Environmental Quality Incentives Program (EQIP) for producers interested in conserving energy on their property. Producers may also receive assistance to implement energy saving measures such as energy-efficient irrigation systems and direct seed cropping systems. Contact your local NRCS office for details.
