Christian Schaffeld is one of the better tennis players in Boise. And the reason is that he is so intent on going after the ball. In business, same thing. He is very successful and friends would say with the best of intention, he's a bulldog. Well, guess what the same attitude bleeds over into his attempts at fishing. The other day he told me a story about a friend of his named David Loper who is a tennis player and also guides steelhead fishing through his company Takedown Guide Service. I don't know who beats who on the tennis court between Christian and David but when they got onto some steelhead in Riggins Idaho, the bulldog in Christian came out. He was in a boat with several other people and they were surrounded by other boats all going after steelhead. Here's Christian: "We didn't get in the water until about 8 in the morning and we went through the rapids where nobody else wanted to go, there were 5 of us in the boat, they had too little salmon eggs, they were like little beads and we put juice on the beads, there was no bait on anything. There were probably about 300 people fishing and for some reason we were the only people catching fish and the 3rd cast I caught a fish then the 5th cast I caught a fish, and the whole boat caught about 15 fish and in hour.

So one small boat among 300 other fishermen who aren' getting so much as a nibble and Christian's group gets 15 fish in an hour. Who deserves the credit the guide or the bulldog?
