Getting Fired

Patience is a virtue and with a hunter, or fisherman, it's a must. That is what must make fishing and hunting guide Patrick Kissel a huge success. He's driven but in a "whatever" kind of way which is very refreshing. Anyway, take a listen to the way that this very active fly fishing guide found his way to Alaska. "I started out in Colorado. Just out of college and summers, I lived out of my Jeep down there. I actually got fired from a dude ranch. I'm not sure why. I guess it's because I would leave every day to go fishing when I probably should have been hanging out with guests. There was an internship deal and they fired me halfway through the summer. I went to a local fly shop that I had been going to and said I am going to be in Colorado for another month. If you have any work for me I am all for it. I was new to the sport and fished every day I could. Learn as much as I could and just kept coming back. I was there for the next two summers and then a full year. I had wanted to get to Alaska. For the hunting and the guiding for the fishing and just got lucky with the gig on the Kenai River. I worked with Alaska trout fitters and worked up there for two years.
