Kodiak surprise

Executive chef and avid outdoorsman Randy King went to hunt black tailed deer in Kodiak Alaska. After some time, he found a great little buck, had him in his crosshairs and then started shaking, as in buck fever. "Put my heart rate through the roof and I had to stop and sit on the side of a mountain for about five minutes and watch this book feed before I took a shot at him and finally ended up getting him. For me that is what it is all about is that experience that you get not only great meat but getting to feel like you are out on an adventure doing something fun. I haven't shaken like that with hunting and animal in years. That refreshed how much I love hunting and having those really cool adventures, things you can't normally have around the house when you're watching cartoons on Saturday morning. So your next book will be entitled getting over deer fever. (Laughter). So seeing the Kodiak brown bear as well, was a jaw-dropping experience. I was trying to cheat the system a little bit, I had heard that the deer all lived up on the top of the mountains so I thought there had to be some deer down low. If I go to a place where there is no pressure, I am bound to run into a deer. I headed off for this place called the Sacramento River and I cut a track right on the river and as I started going downstream, I happened to go around a blind corner, I ran into a Kodiak brown bear at 40 yards. That is a way to make your gut fall out of your body."
