There’s a new cold automated storage facility under construction in Burley which plans to go live in mid-May bringing high tech automation to the world of cold storage. The facility will store processed potatoes having ninety thousand pallet locations. It’s 14 stories high, 300 feet wide by 515 feet long and 140 feet tall.

New Cold Site manager Derek Bedky is in the final stages of hiring a workforce that will be trained to automate product movement via computer. “We need to get all those people trained in the computer system which is definitely the most important part of our of our process and that's all going to start to happen really quickly here. There's going to be anywhere from 75 to 100 employees here.”

Which will be great for the local economy. Bedky is still accepting applications and has also been impressed with local hires so far. “I feel fortunate to be part of this this area. I feel fortunate to have grown up in Oakley which is not that far from here. I feel like about everybody in this area that's that's been here a while is only one or two steps away from the farm or ranch that gives me as an employer an advantage because the people that I'm employing here have a great work ethic and that is just a solid base to build any any structure on this at the foundation we've got for our people is wonderful.”
